The Getaway
A surface pattern design project inspired by the landscape, culture, and emotional atmosphere of Lugu Lake in Yunnan, China. The project reimagines the location as a symbolic retreat—translating environmental textures and regional motifs into a cohesive pattern system.

CULTURAL INTERPRETATION
The main challenge was to capture the essence of Lugu Lake, its tranquil landscapes, Mosuo culture, and emotional stillness, without relying on literal imagery. The design approach focused on abstraction and rhythm, using organic forms, layered textures, and a muted color palette to reflect the poetic stillness of the lake.

The final pattern system features repeating organic shapes, flowing composition, and layered transparency to evoke a sense of depth and calm. Applications include fabric samples, product packaging, and print surfaces, demonstrating how cultural and emotional narratives can be translated into contemporary visual design.
